Kim joins the clinic

Welcome aboard Kim!Although many of you have met Kim already we are pleased to announce that she has joined our team in a permanent part time position from October 1st 2011 onwards. Kim is a passionate and diligent veterinarian who brings a special interest 'small furries' - rabbits, guinea pigs etc to the practice. We are really pleased to welcome Kim to our growing team!

Senior Health

I'm tired and sore! Winter is a great time to consider the health of your elderly pets. We work hard year round to ensure all our senior pets are checked for early signs of disease and that appropriate treatments are undertaken to ensure they remain happy and vital. Over the colder months we are often more aware of our pets as they spend more time inside where we can observe their behaviour. If you have noticed your pet slowing down, drinking or eating more or less, losing weight or doing anything you feel is different then why not take the time to bring them in and let us advise you on what we can do to improve their life quality. Senior pets have special needs and our team can give you many options to meet those needs.

All things feline

Healthy Cat

Megan has just returned from the 2011 New Zealand Veterinary Association conference which was focussed on feline medicine and surgery. Its great to see that our high standards of care for our patients continue to be consistent with those recommended by specialists and experts. We look forward to introducing some of the new innovations and medication ideas Meg has brought back to the practice over the next few months. If you are looking for a great online information source for cats check out www.felipedia.org - its outstanding!

The 5th Vital Assessment

Midnight Feast! The World Small Animal Veterinary Association as has recently highlighted the growing obesity epidemic amongst cats and dogs globally. As part of a global initiative to address this problem they have introduced the concept of 5VA or the Fifth Vital Assessment. This means that as part of every ordinary examination WSAVA recommends that animals are assessed for Body Condition Score (BCS) and that dietary advice becomes part of the normal discussion between the vet and pets carer. We have embraced this challenge and will be using BCS charts in the consult rooms to show you to how keep your pets in good physical condition.
