ServicesSurgery
We are continually improving our service through increasingly advanced surgical equipment and post graduate training of both veterinarians and nursing staff. The preparation room and non sterile surgery allow us to perform procedures that are not considered sterile, such as dentals, or that already involve high levels of infection such as abscesses or contaminated wounds. It has all the 'bells and whistles' of sterile surgery and also houses our incubator for critical care patients. We also make use of referral services in Christchurch and at Massey University for cases requiring specialist care or surgery. Dentistry and Dermatology
Nelson's climate and environment unfortunately means that skin disease, flea infestation and allergic dermatitis are major issues for some of our pets. Treatment of skin allergies and infections can be a complicated process requiring ongoing treatment and management - often for life. Both our vets and nurses can give you all the advice you need to get your pets through the itchy summer months. We also stock the best in flea treatments available and are happy to discuss your pets requirements. Medicine, Critical Care and Anaesthesia
Our trained nurses use pulse oximeters (oxygenation and heart rate) and Doppler blood pressure monitors to continually assess your pet throughout surgery and when requiring intensive care. We also use the latest vet420A advanced anaesthesia monitor in our sterile surgical facility. This is a multi-parameter patient monitor that provides constant monitoring of blood pressure, respiration rate, heart rate, ECG, internal body temperature and oxygen saturation. This means the highest level of care for your pet while undergoing general anaesthesia.
Diagnostic Imaging, ECGStoke Veterinary Clinic X-ray and ultrasound facilities allow us to perform full diagnostic imaging - everything from radiographs of sore legs through to pregnancy diagnosis. We also have a new ECG (electrocardiograph) to allow us to diagnose problems with the heart rate and rhythm.Clinical PathologyWe have a small laboratory within the clinic which allows us to perform preliminary checks of skin and ear slides and some blood tests to ensure rapid evaluation of your pets in emergencies. More complicated blood screens and tests are sent to Gribbles Laboratory in Hamilton by overnight courier to allow a specialist pathologist to review the results and assist in diagnosis.Puppy PreschoolRegular Puppy Preschool classes are run at the clinic by Joyce Ballance and Victoria Bray for puppies between the ages of 7-14 weeks old. Puppy class provides a safe environment in which to teach puppies to socialise with other dogs their age and the other owners present. These classes also enable owners to learn to understand their dogs behaviour which helps with their training. We have a huge amount of positive feedback from participants. Most puppies (and their owners) find these classes a rewarding experience. Classes run on Wednesday evenings from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. Please feel free to ring or drop in and discuss when our next class is running. Or you can download a Puppy PreSchool registration form (Registration.pdf)and bring it in to us.
